"Emotionally Content Teens"
Pre-teens and teens experience strong feelings of stress, confusion, self-doubt, pressure to succeed, and other fears while growing up. For some teenagers, divorce or moving to a new community can be very unsettling and can intensify self-doubts. These factors can often lead to depression. Please join us to take a proactive approach to adolescent depression and suicide. It is important for everyone to be aware of the problem and major risk factors to help prevent a tragedy in our own community. The movie, "More Than Sad" will be shown - this is the same movie that all 8th graders watch as part of the Health Curriculum. Suicides among young people is far more common that most people think and it is now the third leading cause of death for 15-to-24-year-olds. This program was presented to staff last year and received huge applause – come learn why! You do not need to pre-register for this important forum, just grab some friends and join us!
"Helping Your Child Overcome Shyness"
Shyness is often overlooked as an issue for teens. In transitional periods such as the adolescence years, shyness intensifies for just about every teenager. About 40 percent of teens are shy and shyness affects who people are, and who they want to be. This session will provide parents with an overview of shyness, causes of shyness, how to overcome shyness and will commence with a question and answer session.
